Sirens of the Lambs

Banksy

11th October 2013

British street artist Banksy turned his focus to animal rights in his performative art piece Sirens of the Lamb. The piece involved a livestock truck driving around New York's 'met quarter' with cuddly animal toys, ranging from sheep to pandas. Many strands can be taken from this performance, from the embodiment of innocence of the non-humans the toys represent, seen through the eyes of a child. It is also a commentary on how children are raised to appreciate animals in certain ways, yet the reality for many of these animals is persecution and exploitation - acting as alie adults tell their children, like Santa Claus.
