Human Meat

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

28th July 2010 in New York City, USA (Worldwide Campaign)

PETA activists were 'packaged' like deli meat on the streets of New York City. This campaign aimed to break down the barrier between human an non-human. The shock factor, with fake blood and naked limbs, pointed to the packaged meat product in shops as a piece of a once living body. This visual places the human body in the non-human's position and asks the question if this violence is not acceptable to humans, than why non-humans, which we share so many biological similarities to, including flesh and the ability to feel pain. Signs such as 'Meat is Murder' signposts the message further, suggesting that the act of slaughtering a non-human sentient being is asking to killing a human. This campaign asks those witnessing the demonstration to adopt a vegan lifestyle.
